Karla Patricia Avelino

Attorney Karla Patricia Avelino was born in San Salvador, El Salvador and brought to the United States at a very young age fleeing from the civil war in El Salvador. She was raised in Los Angeles, California. In 1984, Attorney Avelino returned to El Salvador and was granted legal permanent residence along with her parents. Ten years later, she acquired citizenship as she was still considered a minor when her mother naturalized.

Karla Patricia Avelino was the first in her family to pursue higher education. She received a law degree from Southwestern Law School in 2006 and a B.A. degree from Franklin & Marshall College, a liberal arts college in Pennsylvania in 2001. While in Law School, Ms. Avelino interned with a Criminal Judge in Buenos Aires, Argentina; interned with the Los Angeles Public Defender’s office, as well as, with the LACBA Immigration Legal Assistance Clinic in the Los Angeles Federal Building with Mary Mucha as her supervisor.

Mrs. Avelino continued her career in Immigration Law with Kaplan, Klein, & Rogen, A Law Corporation from March 2007 to February 2014. While at Kaplan, Klein, & Rogen, she was especially mentored by Mr. Richard David Rogen in removal and deportation defense, appeals, criminal consequences on immigration matters, and various aspects of family-based immigration and humanitarian relief. She also worked with Attorney Alan Klein on O-1(s) and P nonimmigrant visas and EB-1 immigrant visa petitions. Thereafter, in 2014, she, along with Mr. Richard David Rogen, established Rogen and Avelino, A Law Corporation where her services include representation of nonimmigrant visas, immigrant visas, employment-based and family-based adjustment of status, consular processing, provisional waivers, citizenship, removal and deportation defense, and humanitarian relief.

Mrs. Avelino is a member of the California State Bar, having being admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court in June 2007. She is also a member of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Immigration Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA).

She is fluent in Spanish and English.
